Long URL please

I use shortened URLs (web page address) because that often reduces errors when people retype them. When I use twitter, I have no choice: the URL is often longer than the 140 characters I have to write the message. So out comes bit.ly, tinyurl.com or something similar.

However, when I receive a shortened URL I wonder if it will be a security risk: what web page is hiding under that innocent looking address?

A colleague suggested I try http://www.longurlplease.com/ Simply drag a tool to your browser bar, install the Firefox extension or API and see where the short URL leads. It worked for his Firefox but not my locked down system but worth passing on.
