One of the latest POST (United Kingdom Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology) reports http://bit.ly/csJ0Ck looks at the new government’s intentions.
This is a feature of every new parliament: the intent is shown early on in a very short document. The themes in this report range from policy and business being enabled or restricted by technology, through who should have what intellectual property rights, to what very personal data (e.g. DNA) can be retained. All of these themes will be addressed in detail during the life of this government. The summary is four pages long.
It is a refreshing read for those of us who can be a little jaded about the technology we use day-to-day. Perhaps now is the time to reflect on our organisation’s portfolio of projects and ask some searching questions:
- are our lists of projects as broad as this?
- do our projects reflect the whole strategic direction of our organisation?
- do our projects make a real difference to our organisation?
- do our projects make a positive difference in our wider community?
Finally, can we summarise each of our intentions and initiatives/programmes/projects in one paragraph as simply as this document does?
